Rollalong and RCKa named Industry/Manufacturing Partner of the Year at BD awards
The Dorset modular manufacturer and the architectural practice won the category at the 2026 Building Design Architect of the Year Awards, which Rollalong said recognised close working between design and manufacturing.
Modular manufacturer Rollalong and architectural practice RCKa have won the Industry/Manufacturing Partner of the Year category at the 2026 Building Design Architect of the Year Awards, Rollalong said.
The company said the award recognised close working between design and manufacturing, pairing RCKa's architectural skills with its own experience of modular construction. It cited the pair's joint work on temporary accommodation as one example of the partnership, describing the approach as "temporary by use, not temporary by design".
Rollalong said its work with RCKa goes beyond temporary housing, with further projects in development that it would share in due course.
The temporary accommodation system
According to RCKa, a demonstrator module of its modular home was first installed outside the Building Centre in Store Street, London, in January, before moving to Romford and then to City Hall.
RCKa said 18 new family homes would be created using the system on a site on the Waterloo Estate in Havering.
Havering Council announced on 22 October 2025 that Rollalong had been awarded the contract for temporary modular homes at Waterloo and Queen Street by the Wates Residential and Havering Council joint venture.
Paul Jones, Director at Rollalong, said at the time: "Our modular homes are not only quick to install, but also built to the highest standards of quality and sustainability."
Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said: "It will help to reduce our dependency and the significant costs on hotel and hostel accommodation."
Progress on site
The council said the first modular homes were lifted into place at Waterloo and Queen Street on 23 February 2026, with pupils from St Edward's School marking the start of installation. It expected the installation phase to take about three months, after which the homes would be ready for internal fit-out.
In February 2026 Rollalong said the temporary accommodation scheme, delivered with Wates Group, RCKa and Design 4 Structures, had been shortlisted in the Strategy and Building categories at The Pineapples Awards.
The manufacturer
Rollalong says it has been building since 1932, which it describes as making it the UK's longest-established modular company, and that it is the largest offsite design and build contractor in the south of England.
It manufactures its modular buildings at its factory in Dorset and installs them with its own teams. The company says its modular structures carry a 60-year design life accreditation.
Rollalong said further projects developed with RCKa would be announced in due course.
