Gateway opens Hedon Road fabrication facility in Hull to grow modular and steel work

Hull steel fabricator and modular manufacturer We Are Gateway has opened a new Gateway Fabrication facility on Hedon Road in the city, which it said will increase fabrication capacity and support expansion in modular construction.

The company announced the opening in a post on the Modular and Portable Building Association (MPBA) website, where the business is listed in the member directory. It said the investment strengthened its operational capabilities and backed its ambitions to grow across both modular construction and steel fabrication.

Gateway said it now has a presence across three locations. The announcement did not name the other two, and it gave no investment value, floor area, job numbers or opening date for Hedon Road.

The new facility

According to the company, the Hedon Road site provides an expanded base from which to develop its fabrication work, increase capacity and take on further opportunities in the sector. Recent projects it cited include specialist sound attenuation units for data centres, football stadium stands and other custom steel work.

Gateway said it runs its own on-site spray shop for in-house finishing and has its own transport and delivery capability, which it said gives it greater control over manufacturing, finishing and delivery.

The company said its operations are supported by BS EN 1090, the standard for the execution of structural steel and aluminium structures, and ISO 9001 for quality management.

It described the opening as part of a wider investment intended to support larger projects, broaden its fabrication capabilities and further develop its modular offering.

Background

The MPBA directory lists the business as Gateway Modular and Fabrications, describes its work as steel fabrication, chassis manufacturing and modular construction, and says We Are Gateway has more than 40 years of UK manufacturing expertise. The directory gives its address as West Carr Lane, Hull, HU7 0BW.

Companies House records GATEWAY FABRICATIONS LIMITED as an active private limited company at 22 West Carr Lane, Sutton Fields Ind Est, Hull, with a registered nature of business of manufacturing other fabricated metal products. Companies House also records GATEWAY CHASSIS SOLUTIONS LIMITED, registered for the manufacture of metal structures and parts of structures; it was named GATEWAY CHASSIS LIMITED until 2 January 2020.

Separately, a Humber Marine and Renewables report published on 29 November 2012 said Point Engineering Group had announced a £1.2m expansion combining two Gateway companies on a 2.8-acre site at Sutton Fields Industrial Estate in north Hull, in a 40,000 sq ft building prepared for welding, fabrication and assembly of chassis products.

The 2012 report said Gateway Fabrications would operate from the same site to offer design, welding and fabrication services to new sectors including renewables. The Point group then comprised Point Engineering, Point Fabrications, Gateway Chassis and Gateway Fabrications, and the expansion was funded with support from HSBC and Finance Yorkshire.

The Gateway companies were due to move to the Sutton Fields premises, bought on 16 November 2012, over that year's Christmas shutdown and open for production in January 2013.
